WPS: convenience that breaks security
WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) was designed to make adding devices easier — push a button or enter an 8-digit PIN instead of the full WPA2 passphrase. The PIN method has a critical design flaw discovered in 2011 by Stefan Viehböck.
An 8-digit PIN should have 100 million combinations. The flaw reduces this to just 11,000 attempts.
