SDN: separate control from forwarding
Traditional networks embed routing decisions (control plane) inside each device. SDN separates them:
- Data plane: switches/routers just forward packets based on a flow table
- Control plane: a centralized controller computes paths and programs all devices
Result: network behavior is software-defined — no CLI on every box.
