QoS: some packets are more important

On a congested link, QoS determines which packets are sent first and which are dropped. Without QoS, voice packets wait in line behind large file downloads — the result is choppy, delayed audio.

QoS has two parts: marking (tagging packets with priority) and queuing (honoring those tags at congestion points).
