Pull-based metrics collection

Prometheus is a time-series database and monitoring system. Unlike push-based systems, Prometheus pulls metrics from services on a regular interval. Services expose a /metrics HTTP endpoint in a plain-text format — Prometheus scrapes it every 15 seconds.

This pull model means Prometheus controls the scrape rate, services don't need Prometheus's address, and scrape failure is immediately visible as a gap in metrics.
