QoS: traffic lanes on a shared road

A WAN link at 10 Mbps must serve VoIP (needs < 30ms delay), video conferencing (needs bandwidth guarantee), and bulk traffic (can wait). Without QoS, all traffic competes equally — a file backup saturates the link and drops VoIP packets.

DSCP + queuing creates separate lanes: VoIP gets a strict priority lane, video gets a guaranteed bandwidth lane, and everything else shares what's left.
