GraphQL's third operation type

GraphQL has three operation types: queries (fetch data), mutations (change data), and subscriptions (receive a stream of events). Subscriptions are the real-time primitive — the server pushes new data to the client whenever relevant events occur.

Unlike queries (HTTP request-response), subscriptions are long-lived and use WebSockets as the transport.
