One domain, two different answers
Split-horizon DNS (also called split-brain DNS or split-view DNS) returns different DNS answers depending on who is asking. Internal clients get private IP addresses for direct access; external clients get public IPs that go through firewalls and NAT.
This solves two problems: keeping internal network topology private, and ensuring internal clients don't hairpin through NAT to reach services that are directly accessible on the LAN.
